I like music. It’s important to me. Years typically aren’t expressed in what happened, but rather what I was listening to at the time. I remember when I was 6 and got my first album: a copy of the White Album for my birthday because I loved the Rocky Raccoon song so much. But, to get to Rocky Raccoon, you need to first listen to Back in the USSR, Dear Prudence, and Blackbird. And then later, Helter Skelter. That song! That’s what it’s like to be 6: frenetically flailing about in an abundance of unfocused energy. The song is me at six with a face full of sugar, but similarly, sixteen, with a head full of angst. And maybe it’s me again at 26.
In this spirit, and the odd recurrence of questions about music whenever I open the blog up to questions, I thought I’d share a few of my own mixes over the next few days. I’ve a certain mix philosophy: it’s good to have a few songs you’ve heard, and a few more that you’ve never heard, and a few that sound vaguely familiar that maybe you’ve forgotten. I like using themes to tie these things together to possibly document an emotion or event. So, with this in mind, here’s the first.
