October Monthly Goal Meet-Up
by Tyler Hayes, September 30, 2009
In the spirit of what seems to be quite spirited, I’m taking a page from Grace Boyle and Rebecca Thorman. I’m going to start posting my monthly goals on my blog.
Much like most people, the one thing that worries me – the same thing that always worries me with goals like these – is consistency and follow-through. While I know I’m great at achieving goals when I really set my mind to them – like how I lost 20 pounds in January this year – I typically need some sort of external motivator (human or otherwise).
Sure, when I lost the weight in January I did it for myself. But primarily, I did it for my girlfriend at the time. I’d been trying to lose weight for a while, and the thought of her returning from a month-long trip to Costa Rica to see me 20 lbs. more in-shape was a truly motivating thought. And it got me off my ass.
My plan to continue getting leaner since we broke up? Not as successful.
When it comes to relationships, hey, they’re good at motivating us. Lose a couple pounds for the hubby. Take out the trash on a regular basis without reminder. Don’t forget the anniversary! Being an ENFP, I am a natural people-pleaser. On the flip side, I often don’t take enough time for myself, to the point where I even scorn myself for being so selfish as to take time that isn’t for helping others.
This time around, however, I’m going to accomplish these goals for myself. Not only do I want to, I need to. As I slowly but surely put the pieces of the puzzle that is my life together, this is an important one: accomplishing a goal for myself, and not for someone else.
October Goals
- Lose these love handles by taking advantage of the 1-month LifeTime membership my parents bought me.
- Write on TheTylerHayes weekly.
- Research at least 10 hours on how charities work.
- Go back to the chalkboard on my businesses and figure out what I like/dislike and how I want to redefine them.
- Figure out realistic referral goals for my businesses and plan on how to achieve those goals.
I couldn’t tell you what my September goals were because, honestly, they were too ambiguous. So wish me luck! Did you accomplish your September goals? What helped you achieve them? What’s got you excited for October?
To participate in the meet-up:
- Post a list of your career/life related goals for Oct, along with your checked off Sept goals if you’d like, on your own blog.
- Visit Rebecca’s relevant blog post on Modite and leave a link to your post in the comments (*If you don’t have your own blog, feel free to share your list there in the comments to join in!)
- Then, check out everyone else’s lists as they leave comments – click their links, visit their blogs, say hello, meet, greet and support each other because that’s what it’s all about!
Man am I glad to be blogging again! And setting goals feels great. Evidently there’s a mid-month checkup, and I’m certainly looking forward to it. I hope you are too! Can’t wait to see what everyone else’s goals are! Until next time.
